One of the first videos of this mornings meteoroid that hit Ireland. The last one that hit in 1999 went for $500 an ounce at auction. Latest reports say this meteoroid hit in the north of the country.
Meteor showers are caused by tiny pieces of dust floating around in space. This dust is left over material from comets and from the creation of the Solar System. When the Earth passes through a region containing large amounts of this debris, Earth’s gravity pulls in the fragments. When these meteoroids hit the atmosphere, they begin to glow very brightly as they burn up, appearing as streaks known as meteors.
